ATX Accepting Submissions For Pitch Competition & Writing Program

The Pitch Competition gives burgeoning writers the opportunity to pitch their ideas to ATX’s studio and network partners and have their scripts read by top executives. Writers must submit a 90-second video pitch of their scripted idea, along with a 10-page script sample. Following three rounds of judging, the top 10 finalists will have the opportunity to pitch live at the ATX Television Festival, which runs June 8-11 in Austin, to a panel of industry professionals who will choose one winner. The winner have the chance to pitch his or her idea to ATX’s studio and network partners, have their script read by top executives, sit in on a current-series writers room and meet with a top showrunner. The ideal candidate will have five or more years of experience copyediting, preferably at a weekly or daily publication (deadlines are crucial); knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe InCopy, and K4; experience working with digital media; and familiarity with the book publishing business.

Dow: Children's publishers must think 'beyond the book'

"Publishers need to think beyond the book" to other media such as YouTube and Snapchat, and ensure everything they do has "the consumer at its heart”, m.d. of Penguin Random House Children’s Francesca Dow has said.

Speaking at the Bookseller’s Children’s Conference taking place at Milton Court in London today (27th September), Dow said that publishers needed to consider the “complete story” of their publishing.

29 September sees the start of the community festival, kicking off with Poems Aloud, hosted by Hilda Sheehan (we've heard the Mayor of Swindon will be in attendance, reading and bringing his big grin and enthusiasm for poetry, so we're feeling very grown up!).

On Saturday 1 October, Poetry Swindon celebrates the 100th anniversary of Dada, the influential ‘nonsense’ art movement, with anti-verse workshops and open mic with the Tin Women.
