PEN America invites applications for Emerging Voices Fellowship

Founded in 1922, PEN America champions the freedom to write, recognizes the power of the word to transform the world, and works to unite writers and their allies to celebrate creative expression and defend the liberties that make it possible.
The organization invites applications for its Emerging Voices Fellowship, a five-month, virtual immersive mentorship program for early-career writers from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the publishing world. The program is committed to cultivating the careers of Black writers, and serves writers who identify as Indigenous, persons of color, LGBTQ+, immigrants, writers with disabilities, and those living outside of urban centers. Through curated one-on-one mentorship and introductions to editors, agents, and publishers, as well as workshops on editing, marketing, and creating a platform, the fellowship nurtures creative community, provides a professional skill set, and demystifies the path to publication—with the ultimate goal of diversifying the publishing and media industries.
Through the program, nine fellows will receive an honorarium of $1,500 and will be paired with a mentor who will serve as a source of guidance for the project.
Winston-Salem Writers presents Three-in-a-Row Writers Workshops

Registration is now open for Winston-Salem Writers’ annual Three-In-A-Row workshops. The following workshops will be on Zoom on three Saturdays in January: Critiquing and Revision on Jan. 11, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Agents on Jan.18, and Writing Short Plays on Jan. 25.
All three workshops are from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is free for Winston-Salem Writers members and $25/workshop for non-members. Registration ends three days before each workshop. Writing competition marks 20th anniversary in 2025

A writing competition in Surrey will mark its 20th anniversary in 2025.
The Elmbridge Literary Competition was conceived as a one-off event in 2005, but has developed into a contest that attracts entrants from around the world.
The theme for the 2025 event is the river.
This has been chosen to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of local writer R C Sherriff, author of the play Journey's End and a keen rower.
The author's link to the area is marked by the Rowing Eight, a sculpture close to Molesey Boat Club.
Entry to the competition costs £8 for adults, but is free to under-18s, and the closing date is 24 February.
Simon Waugh, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and commercial strategy at Elmbridge Borough Council, said: "Over the last two decades, it has grown significantly, attracting an increasing number of participants.

Write On, Door County’s January class lineup will start with Cultivating a Creative Practice: On Writing through Dark Days, a workshop led by novelist Elizabeth Ames Staudt.
The online class, held Jan. 14, 6-7:30 pm, will help writers find courage, comfort and camaraderie while renewing their commitment to creativity. The class fee is $30.
Next, writer/educator Debra Blake will lead a class titled The Second Draft: Revising Your Novel on Jan. 21, 10:30 am – 12 pm. Participants will learn helpful approaches to evaluate and revise their manuscripts. The class fee is $30.
