Description

This agent retired after eighteen years in New York as a freelance editor. His clients included many of the major publishers in the New York Area. Actively seeking the next Clancy, Grisham, or Dan Brown. Firmly believes that the finest writers have yet to be published.

This agency does not charge reading or editing fees. If in the event a query sounds interesting, we ask for the manuscript. In the e-mail requesting the manuscript we advise the writer up front that in the event of representation, the postage and copying costs for submissions to publishers must be absorbed by the client. It also clearly explains to the potential client that he/she will receive a detailed account of which publishers the submissions are sent to and there are no charges to the client until they are mailed. There is a four to six week interval between mailings. Again, this depends on how quickly the publishers respond.

firstwriter.com advises writers to exercise caution when contacting any agency that charges up-front fees.

This agent represented me for a while under the name Phil Benedict. I confronted him about suspicions that he was not sending material to publishers and he cut off contact with me.

Phil represented me for about 4 months, and he sent me two requests for money for copying and submission postage fees. Recently, I went back to the website and found negative comments, and when I confronted him and demanded to be let out of my contract, he complied. He was not able to supply any proof of the submissions he said he made to publishers. I think he's dishonest and would advise anyone to steer clear of him.

Submitted a query in October, 2004, after six months has not responded. I included proper format and SASE. Non-response is rude and unprofessional
