Bridport
Prize 2014 open for entries
The Bridport Prize – one
of the world's biggest English-language writing
competitions – has announced its 2013 winners:
- Daisy Behagg wins the £5,000 first prize for poetry;
- Eve Thomson wins the £5,000 first prize for short story;
and
- Nicholas Ruddock wins £1,000 first prize for flash fiction
The competition is now open
for the 2014 prizes. The 2014 judges have been announced
as Liz Lochhead for poetry, Andrew Miller for short stories, and Tania Hershman for flash fiction.
Entries are accepted by post or online, until the closing
date of May 31, 2014.
In its 40th anniversary
year, the competition boasts the following renowned

New virtual
community for writers
This month sees the creation of WRITERS WRITE, a new forum for
writers. In this virtual community, writers at all stages of their writing
careers can meet, discuss and showcase their work.
They say that writing is the loneliest job in the world, but there are

Bakehouse novel writing
course
A novel writing course with
award winning novelist Karen Campbell at the Bakehouse in the New Year. Early booking is advisable.

Karen Campbell is originally from Glasgow, where she gained a Masters in Creative Writing (Distinction) at Glasgow University. Winner of the Best New Scottish Writer Award in 2009, Karen has published five novels,
with her current novel
This Is Where I Am (Bloomsbury Circus) being chosen as a Radio 4 Book at Bedtime. The recipient of a Scottish Arts Council New Writers Award, Karen also tutors on Arvon writing courses at Moniack Mhor, and has
appeared on Radio 3, BBC Radio Scotland’s Culture Cafe and Radio 4’s Women’s Hour, as well as literary festivals such as Wigtown, Edinburgh, Aye Write and FIRN in France. More information
