Eleventh International Short Story Contest

There are only a few days left to enter our short story contest, which closes on May 1. The competition is open to short stories in English, on any subject and in any style, up to 3,000 words. Writers from anywhere in the world can enter. The first prize is £200 (about $300), and there are also ten vouchers for free subscriptions to firstwriter.com up for grabs.

Canterbury Festival Poet of the Year

The competition to find the 2015 Poet of the Year is now open to the public.

Last year 172 entries were received from all over the world including America, Switzerland and Macedonia, and the longlisted poems are published in an anthology.

Entries cost £5 per poem and must accompanied by an entry form which will is available from the website.

Personify your pet

Write a poem about your favorite pet with four 4-line verses. The title of the poem is the pet's name. 24 lines total, including: Title, Verses, skipped spaces, and By-line.

One entry per submission. Send yourpoem in the body of an email (no attachments), or (preferred) hard-copy on paper (US Mail).

Winners will be published in Lone Stars magazine.

The New Guard Volume V Fiction and Poetry Contests

The New Guard Volume V Fiction and Poetry Contests are now open, offering the opportunity to win $1,500 and publication in The New Guard Volume V.

Entry fee is $20. Online submissions only.

MACHIGONNE FICTION CONTEST: $1,500 and publication for an exceptional work of fiction in any genre. Submit up to 5,000 words: anything from flash to the long story. Novel excerpts are welcome if the excerpt functions as a stand-alone story. Judged by ADAM BRAVER

KNIGHTVILLE POETRY CONTEST: $1,500 and publication for an exceptional poem in any form. Three poems per entry. Up to 150 lines per poem. Judged BY ROGER BONAIR-AGARD

Battered Moons Poetry Competition

The sixth Battered Moons Poetry Competition will be open from March 16, 2015, to all UK residents aged 18 or over, and accepts poems on any topic and style, up to 40 lines. Guest judge Pascale Petit and Cristina Navazo-Eguía Newton will both read all the poems.

The three winners and four commended poets will be invited to read their poems at the Poetry Swindon Festival on Saturday October 3, 2015, when Pascale Petit will present the prizes and read from her own work. Winning and commended poems will appear in the Battered Moons pamphlet and on the website.

First prize, £700; second, £200; third, £100, plus four commendations of £25 each. Entry fee: £5 for the first poem and £3.50 thereafter. Closing date for entries is June 30, 2015. Online and postal entries accepted. For further information and to enter online, visit http://batteredmoons.com 

  

TARA Contest

The TARA Contest is open to unpublished and published authors of novel length fiction. The author does not have to be a member of Romance Writers of America (RWA) to enter the TARA Contest, however the entry must be the author’s original work, unpublished and not contracted as of the time of the contest deadline. No entry may have been previously published in any format. (on author’s website visible to the public, self-published, ebook, mass market, etc.)

Entry fee is $25 and the closing date is May 1, 2015.

Heart of Denver Romance Writers announces the 2015 Molly Contest for unpublished writers

Participation is open to all unpublished authors of novel length romance fiction and those who have not published within three years prior to contest deadline. Entries are to be up to the first 25 pages (including prologue) PLUS up to 5 pages of a synopsis. (The synopsis is not judged, but is helpful in helping the judges score your entry, and judges will often give comments on the synopsis.)

Entry fee is $40 and the deadline is May 1, 2015.

Erbacce Prize for Poetry 2015

The erbacce-prize for 2015 is now accepting submissions up until midnight on the first of May, 2015.

The competition is free to enter, and welcomes submissions from around the world.

The winner will have their collected works published in perfect-bound format with the winner's choice of full-colour gloss or matt cover; a royalty-paying publishing contract; and five free copies.
