Sent query to Erin Harris, she replied the same day, saying, she received my query and would consider and reply within a specific period.

I wish more agents were that conscientious.

Emailed synopsis and first 10 pages to Molly Jaffa. 30 days later received lovely reply from Molly. A rejection - but the way it was expressed is near perfect!

Agents receive even more rejections than most authors. Rejection can mean different things and often has nothing to do with our work. Jeff Kleinman sent me a fast, courteous rejection for a reason I already know. I'm trying to locate print for my eigth book, a short story collection at a time when the perception of this literary form is negative. We thank a fine person like this and if we believe in our work we keep on truckin'.

Quick response. Very polite rejection letter from Paige Wheeler. Although project was something she wasn't passionate about, encouraged me to search for other agents. Nice comments about sample submitted.

Having sold my book, I wanted an agent. Queried them by email, got immediate response. "Unfortunately, your project does not seem right for me. It's important that you find an agent who will represent you to the best of his or her ability, I'm going to have to step aside from asking to represent your manuscript." I don't doubt this is a piece of boilerplate and the same words are sent to a number of people each day, but it was still polite and speedy -- both qualities I appreciate.

Very nice rejection letter from Scott Hoffman saying my book is not for them but urging me to try other agents.

Politeness and courtesy, even with a negative answer, go a long way to making writers, who are sensitive at best, feel less like squashed bugs and pests.

Very quick response and although the agency advises my work is not for them, they did encourage me to continue my search

Very prompt response to my query and requested 50 pages to read. Within two weeks had kind rejection - most professional.
