Rachael Miller lost her
twin sister, Angel, as a young child, but the loss was lessened by
Angel's return as her guardian angel. As Rachael enters middle
school, Angel acts as Rachael's conscience-much like Pinocchio's
Jiminy Cricket-staying by her side and showing approval or
disapproval toward Rachael's actions. It is Angel's intention to
stick around until she is "called" back to Heaven, and her
hope is that she will be able to guide and nurture her sister until
Rachael makes new friends and forges a path in life.
"Angel Eyes"
is an ideal read for 8 through 12-year-olds. Reading this book made
me rather wistfully wish I could've had a guardian angel like Angel
Miller when I was 12-goodness knows I could've used her! But, while
being an entertaining read, I think Angel Eyes is also beneficial in
that it sends
pre-teens a message that it's okay to be yourself, and you don't
have to be a troublemaker to be cool, which are important lessons.
All in all, a very positive reading experience for kids.
