firstwriter.magazine
#4:
The Coming Storm
firstwriter.com
is proud to announce the release of issue 4 of firstwriter.magazine,
The Coming
Storm. With our continuing development of the format of
this title we have walked a tortuous tight-rope between the
scale of our ambitions and the scale of our readers'
processors... the path has been a twisted one fraught with
revamps and rethinks, but we are finally pleased to present an
issue which we believe is both more sophisticated in
appearance and less cluttered and more clean. The advertising
has been removed, and the navigation shifted to the top of the
page, allowing for the emphasis to fall where it should: on the
fiction and poetry on display.
Further complications were
presented by the editorial conflicts which emerged during
the production – in particular for our Poetry Editor, who
recently became Managing Editor of That's Shanghai
magazine, and whose new responsibilities have left this
particular issue with a somewhat stinted poetry section. If you've
submitted poetry for issue 4 which doesn't appear then don't
despair – your work is
still being considered and may appear in the next issue. We
apologise for the delay and do encourage you to submit your work
elsewhere simultaneously. The
supply of quality fiction has been plentiful for this issue, and
there are no fewer than seven stories featured. This goldrush
has also meant that some of the stories submitted for issue 4
may actually now appear in issue 5. Again, please feel free to submit your work
elsewhere simultaneously. We
are now accepting submissions for issue 6. To submit your
poetry and fiction please go to http://www.firstwriter.com/Magazine/submit.shtml.

4 of firstwriter.magazine includes fiction by SC Jackson,
RD Larson, Eva Acqui, Christopher
Morrow, Melinda Reddick, Kimberley Holmes, and Sarah
Lundgren; and poetry by Amanda Auchter and Ella Wagemakers; as
well as the answer to the riddle of Ratio's name. Artist
residency program The
Gibraltar Point International Artist Residency Program is open
to Canadian and international artists, including visual artists,
writers, dancers, filmmakers and environmental artists from
around the world. It offers artists the opportunity to live and
work at the Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts on Toronto
Island (Toronto, Canada) from
June 1–30, 2004, and is designed to provide
participants with time to think, create and experiment within a
diverse community of artists. The deadline for applications is
March 4, 2004. For full details click
