Sales Statistics How
can I improve my sales?
- Don't make the classic mistake of
putting up a few banners and expecting your visitors to click on them.
This option is the least effort and will yield the least reward, as
users simply ignore adverts. Compare how many times you click on a
banner (a couple of times a year?) to the amount you click on text
links or search boxes (hundreds of times a week?) and you'll see why
text links in the body of your text, or search boxes that offer users
a facility, perform much more strongly.
- Make the links relevant to the pages
they are on, and use them on as many pages as possible. A good tip is
to place them in your navigation bar - not only will this ensure they
appear on all your pages, but that they are also in the area most
likely to be clicked by users.
- If you don't want to link on all your
pages, try and link on those as close to your homepage as possible,
and those that receive the highest number of hits. Links closer to the
tops of pages have also been shown to perform better than those
further down.
- Get as much traffic as possible. The
best way to do this is to provide a high-quality website, with
relevant, on-topic information, that people will want to visit again
and again - but high search engine rankings also helps! For tips on
improving your search engine rankings click

What Products Qualify for Commissions?
All competition entries qualify for a 15% commission. New subscriptions
qualify for a £1.05 commission each. Book and magazine
sales do not generate commissions as they are sold by third parties through
firstwriter.com, and not by firstwriter.com directly.
Back to Questions
My statistics don't show any sales, why
is this? The most likely reason is that you have not generated any
sales. For tips on how to improve your links' performances click
here. Also, please note that commissions are only available on
competitions entered and subscriptions taken out, not on books or magazines purchased through
the site. If you think you have generated competition entries or
subscriptions which have
not been tracked then please ensure that your links are correct, as
incorrect linking could result in a tracking failure, for which we cannot
be held responsible. Please log in to the members area and go to one of
the linking sections for details on how to build your own
unique links. If you are not using your unique links your sales will not
be tracked. Please also be careful when using WYSIWYG HTML editors such as
FrontPage, as they can often alter HTML code without you knowing. Always
edit the HTML code directly to be sure of linking correctly.
Back to Questions
If
a user doesn't buy straight away will I lose the commission? No. After
you have redirected a user to our site there is a period of 100 days
before the cookie expires. If they enter a competition or take out a
subscription any time in this
period you will receive your commission. Back to Questions
Click-throughs
are not being recorded, why not? Unlike other affiliate systems, our
software will only register one click per visitor - so if someone on a
slow connection keeps clicking your link it will still only register as
one click. Once a user has clicked on your link it will be 100 days before
they can click on your link and affect your statistics. To test your own
link you must delete your cookies (see "Tools", "Internet
Options") and then click on your link. Back to Questions
Sales
are not being recorded, why not? Only the first sale generated by a
user will result in a commission. After this the user is deemed to already
be aware of our site, and so no commission is paid. If a user had already
been directed to our site by another affiliate within 100 days prior to
being redirected by you then the commission would be credited to the
affiliate who originally directed us the user. Back to Questions
My
total sales have gone down or disappeared, why? At the end of a
period where your total commissions exceed £50 this sum will be deducted
from your overall earnings and sent to you by your specified method. Back to Questions
Payments When
will I receive payments? Payments will be made quarterly at the end of
March, June, September, and December, when accounts exceed £50.00 Back to Questions
What
are the options for method and currency of payment? Payments will be
sent through
PayPal
unless you change the preferences in your account. All funds will
automatically be converted to your own currency by
PayPal.
Since
PayPal
accounts are free (you can even receive a $5 bonus for signing up)
there should be no reason not to adopt this option (if you do not already
have a
PayPal
account you can open one for free by clicking
here). Sending a cheque or foreign currency cheque demand a great deal
more time and expense than sending payment via
PayPal,
so should you demand either of these options a charge will be made against
your commissions earned (£5 for UK cheques, £10 for foreign currency
cheques). Since this amounts to 10% / 20% of your entire earnings you are
strongly advised to receive payment via
PayPal. Back to Questions
Why do my
account details still read in GB Pound Sterling, when I selected a
different payment currency? Account details are always given in GB
Pound Sterling, whatever options you select. If you are being paid through
PayPal your
commissions will be automatically converted to your currency. If you are
being paid by foreign currency cheque your fees will be converted to your
currency in accordance with exchange rates at the time of payment, after a
£10 charge has been made against them. To avoid charges adopt
PayPal
as your preferred method of payment. Back to Questions
My
account has exceeded £50 but I haven't received payment, why not? If
your account has exceeded £50 then your payment will be sent out at the
end of the next quarter, which will either be the end of March, June,
September, or December. If the end of a quarter has elapsed, and you have
allowed sufficient time for processing and / or postage, e-mail support@firstwriter.com
with the details of your account and query. Back to Questions
I
didn't receive payment at the end of the last quarter, why not? Cheques
will only be sent out for sums greater than £50.00. When your account
exceeds this limit you will be sent payment at the end of that quarter.
If your account has exceeded £50.00, and you have allowed sufficient time
for processing and posting, please e-mail support@firstwriter.com
with details of your account and query. Back to Questions

More Money from my Website? What
advertising opportunities can you recommend? An excellent means of
generating advertising revenue is offered by ExitFuel - they offer an
impressive $5.00 per 1,000 impressions, and what's best is that the

programs are available to join? For writing sites there is often a
limited range of options for joining affiliate programs - one you might
